Straight answers about what this will cost

A small firm handling family law, wills and estates, and property. Most people come to us at a bad moment and the first thing they want to know is the price. We tell them on the first call, before anyone signs anything.

  • The first conversation is free and carries no obligation
  • Fixed fees where the work allows it, a written estimate where it doesn't
  • You deal with the person handling your matter, not a case number

What we do

Three things, done properly

We turn work away that sits outside these. It is better for you and honestly it is better for us.

Family

Separation, divorce, and arrangements for children. We will tell you plainly whether court is likely, because usually it is not.

  • Divorce and separation
  • Child arrangements
  • Financial settlements
  • Cohabitation agreements

Wills and estates

Writing a will, lasting powers of attorney, and dealing with an estate after a death — including the parts nobody warns you about.

  • Wills
  • Lasting powers of attorney
  • Probate and administration
  • Trusts

Property

Buying, selling and transferring. You get told when something is wrong with a title while there is still time to walk away.

  • Residential sales and purchases
  • Transfers of equity
  • Leases
  • Boundary questions

Money

What it costs

Most firms will not put this on a website. These are the figures we quote on the phone anyway, so they may as well be here. All exclude tax and any fees paid to third parties, which we itemise separately.
WorkHow we chargeFrom
First conversationUp to 30 minutes, no obligationFree
Single willFixed fee$290
Pair of mirror willsFixed fee$450
Lasting power of attorneyFixed fee, per document$340
Residential purchaseFixed fee, by price band$980
Uncontested divorceFixed fee$1,200
Estate administrationHourly, with a written estimate first$240/hr
Contested mattersHourly, reviewed at every stage$280/hr

If a fixed fee stops being the right answer — the other side does something unexpected, or the estate turns out to be more complicated than it looked — we tell you before the extra work starts, not on the invoice afterwards. Replace every figure here with the firm's real fees, and check the wording against your regulator's advertising rules before publishing.

Who you deal with

The people here

Four of us. You will know which one has your file. Swap the initials for real photographs.

Margaret Hale

Partner — family

Founded the firm in 1998. Takes the difficult separations and most of the cases involving children.

Joseph Verity

Partner — property

Conveyancing and leases. Known for reading the whole title pack, which is rarer than it should be.

Adaeze Okonkwo

Solicitor — wills and estates

Wills, powers of attorney and probate. Patient with families who are dealing with this for the first time.

Ruth Tamblyn

Practice manager

Answers the phone, books the appointments, and chases whoever needs chasing.

What happens

How it goes

  1. You call or write

Tell us roughly what has happened. Thirty minutes, free, and nothing is signed.

  2. We tell you where you stand

Including when the answer is that you do not need a solicitor. That happens more often than you would think.

  3. You get it in writing

What we will do, what it will cost, and how long it usually takes. Nothing starts until you have read it and agreed.

  4. We do the work and keep you told

An update at every stage, and a straight answer when you ask where it is up to.

Before you call

Questions we get asked

Is the first call really free?
Yes, up to half an hour, and there is no obligation at the end of it. If we think you do not need us, we will say so.
Can you tell me what this will cost before I commit?
Yes. Either a fixed fee or a written estimate with the assumptions it rests on, before any work starts.
How long will it take?
It depends on the matter and on the other side, so we will give you a realistic range rather than a number we cannot stand behind.
Will I always speak to the same person?
Yes. One person handles your matter and you have their direct line.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Whatever you already have. Do not delay calling because you are missing a document — we will tell you what matters.

Ask us something

Calling is quickest, and you will get a person rather than a menu. If you would rather write, this form reaches the practice manager and she will route it.

Please keep it brief and leave out anything sensitive — a web form is not a secure or confidential channel, and sending it does not make us your solicitors.
