A short menu, changed every week

Twelve dishes, cooked from scratch, using whatever is good that week. We are small — forty covers — so the kitchen can actually make everything properly.

Lunch Tue–Sun · Dinner Wed–Sat · walk-ins kept back at the bar every night

How we got here

Two of us, one small room

We took over a failed sandwich shop on Harrow Lane in 2016 with about enough money to paint it. The kitchen is the size of a generous bathroom, which is why the menu is twelve dishes and not forty.

Nearly everything is made here — the bread, the butter, the pickles, the ice cream. Not out of principle, originally. There was no money to buy them in.

We buy from four suppliers we have used since the first year, and we change the menu on a Tuesday because that is when the vegetables arrive.

When

Opening hours

The kitchen closes thirty minutes before the room does. Last orders are taken seriously by the chef and loosely by everyone else.

Booking a table

Tables of one to six can be booked. Larger than that, call us and we will work something out. We keep the bar back for walk-ins every single night, so if you have not booked, come anyway and try your luck.

Word of mouth

What people say

Use real reviews, word for word, and only with permission. Delete these.

Twelve dishes and I wanted nine of them. That has never happened to me in a restaurant with sixty.

— Helen B.

Told them I could not eat dairy. The chef came out, talked me through what he could change, and then changed it.

— Omar F.

We walked in on a Friday with no booking, sat at the bar, and had a better night than the people with the table.

— Katie and Rob

Where

Find us

Harrow Lane, between the bookshop and the launderette. The green door — there is no sign, which we are told is annoying.

A request, not a confirmed booking — we will call you back to fix it.
